Okay, so not literally stomp grapes (though I guess you never know what might be offered in the future). The trend of NYC-produced adult beverages is being rekindled. My long-standing favorite is the Brooklyn Brewery where you can grab a picnic table, trade in some wooden tokens and drink local brews to your heart’s content (oh and they let you order in pizza, I mean, what is better?) The Kings County Distillery was recently brought back to life and now offers tours and sells libations throughout the state – it is New York’s oldest whiskey distillery. But we want to talk about wine! And I have two recommendations for you when you want to try bottles made within the 5-bouroughs: Brooklyn Winery and City Winery. Continue reading
Dizamn, what’s a girl got to do to get some wine around here?? I mean, don’t get me wrong – I am loving Minneapolis and all it has to offer. But as a California native {and apparent vino lover enthusiast addict?}, it’s a hard adjustment to not have wine accessible 7 days a week, at every major grocery chain, and even at your favorite Target. Yikes, I sound like I have dependency issues… lemme re-phrase :: Minnesota has weird state rules. Continue reading
Our recent Grapes of Laugh Wine Club event was definitely an affair not to be missed on the calendar.
The event was hosted at the beautiful home of our good friends and fellow Laughsters, Dan and Diana. The theme was quite simple: just bring one Reserve Wine per person. Red or white, your choice. If it says “Reserve” on the label, good enough. As far as food offerings went, everybody was to bring hand-prepared, individual appetizers enough for about 20 or so guests. We definitely have a very imaginative group and this also extends to the food creative in all of us. More on that later. Continue reading
They came. They saw. They tasted. On September 17th we had a fantastic interactive Jessup Cellars tasting party in our Brooklyn apartment. We had about 15 people pop in throughout the evening to enjoy samples of: Continue reading
Two Jess’ apparently DO think alike! Just as Jessup posted its latest YouTube video, I was drafting this blog… and guess what we’re both talking about? Manny’s blend!! {yaaaay… *clap*clap* … applause…} Yes, tis the season for bold, jammy reds. Something with heft + warmth to signal the change in seasons, but easy-going enough to handle the occasional trace of summer that many September nights try to sneak upon us as the days gets shorter and the leaves turn browner. Continue reading
I am very excited because this week it is my turn to tell you about the wine tasting I am hosting this weekend! My husband and I have a great group of friends coming to our apartment to sample an ample list of Jessup wines, taste some great food pairings and record all of their thoughts for you! (I don’t think I told them they were going to be blog guinea pigs in the invitation…) Continue reading
Don’t you just love going to Summer/Fall wine festivals!? I certainly do! The latest I attended was the Annual Santa Clara Vintage Wine Festival; which is definitely one of my favorites to attend every year. This event hosts over 40 different food and wine vendors, with hundreds of different wines to try! Check out the complete list of vendors here. The cost is simply $50 per person and it’s all you can eat and drink, does it get better than that? Continue reading
I’ve always said that I’m a firm believer in drinking whatever one’s heart desires; the rules can bend or break no matter the occasion, weather, or meal. However, it’s no secret that wine and food make quite a couple. When the two are put together the possibilities are endless. Continue reading
Wines, like movies, gain reputation by recommendation, but can only be truly enjoyed through your own experience. Friends could tell you how scary JAWS was, but you can only fully appreciate it when you have seen it yourself. You may have heard how breathtaking are the visuals of The Lord of the Rings, but until you have actually traveled with the Hobbits through your TV screen you won’t be able to appreciate the cinematic genius. The same goes for wine – you will never know how amazingly fruit forward and easily drinkable Jessup Cellars’ Table for Four really is until you have tried it for yourself. Continue reading
Consider yourself warned. I’ve been having sporadic freak-outs not inclusive to shortness of breath, increased heart palpitations, and sudden muscle spasms. Don’t worry it’ll go away by next week. I’m just freaking out because it’s my last weekend wearing my unemployed-grad-school-graduate halo. It was a free pass from all things that smelled of responsible adulthood and it’s about to retire. In fact, by the time this entry is published, I’ll probably have started my new job already. It’s massively exciting, sorta like the first day of school… and since I am a giant nerd, this type of excitement is pure bliss. Continue reading
